Sudan Power Damage Drives Solar Use

Business 25/05/2026

UNDP said Sudan’s electricity sector sustained about $3 billion in war damage, pushing households, businesses, telecom firms, and farmers toward solar energy. The agency said grid access remains limited, especially outside major cities, while solar imports rose sharply in 2024 and 2025. It warned that currency depreciation, import costs, supply chain constraints, and high loan rates continue to limit wider solar adoption.
