Mnangagwa Appoints New ZDF Chief

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed General Emmanuel Matatu as the new Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces following the retirement of General Philip Valerio Sibanda. Matatu was promoted from Lieutenant General. Major General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi has also been elevated to Lieutenant General and named Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army. The changes take effect between 21 and 25 November 2025.
