Govt Dismisses Internet Shutdown Claims

Ugandan authorities have dismissed claims of an impending internet and mobile money shutdown ahead of the January 15 general elections. The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and ICT Permanent Secretary Aminah Zawedde confirmed that no such directive has been issued, labeling circulating notices as fake and misleading. Officials urged the public to rely on verified sources and warned against spreading unverified information, emphasizing that services will remain fully operational to support a peaceful and credible electoral process.
