President William Ruto announced plans to construct a State Lodge in Meru by December 2025 to support the town’s elevation to city status. Speaking in Meru, Ruto announced that Ksh 20 billion has been allocated for road upgrades and Ksh 800 million for the renovation of Gakoromone Market. Environmental groups, including the Green Belt Movement, raised concerns over reports that part of Imenti Forest could be used for the project, seeking clarification from government authorities.
