Amnesty Faults Somalia on Drought Aid

Amnesty International has accused Somali authorities and the international community of failing to protect drought-affected communities in southern Somalia, exposing them to rights violations. Its new report, “No Rain, No Food, No Animals,” says that between 2020 and 2023, inadequate relief forced thousands to flee to IDP camps and Kenya’s Dadaab Refugee Camp. Amnesty urged Somalia and global partners to strengthen climate-resilience measures and fulfill obligations to safeguard food, water, and health rights.
