FDC, NRM Compete for Rwenzori

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) are vying for political influence in Uganda’s Rwenzori region ahead of the 2026 elections. In Kasese District, which had more than 384,000 registered voters in 2021, FDC is fielding 14 candidates to reclaim lost parliamentary seats. Both parties face internal divisions, with defections weakening the opposition and rifts emerging within the NRM. FDC completed nominations with several candidates unopposed.
