Ethiopia defended its right to use the Nile in a letter to the UN Security Council, rejecting Egypt’s claims that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) threatens water security. Foreign Minister Timothewos described Egypt’s stance as “hegemonic” and “colonial,” cited Ethiopia’s adherence to the 2015 Declaration of Principles, and noted support from African states. He accused Egypt of blocking negotiations and urged investment in sustainable solutions.
