Govt Plans Teacher’s Phased Pay Raise

The Ugandan government reaffirmed its plan to raise teacher salaries in phases beginning in the 2026/27 financial year to address a nationwide teachers’ strike. The Uganda National Teachers’ Union launched the strike over low pay, poor working conditions, and unpaid allowances, disrupting classes across the country. Education Minister Janet Museveni and State Minister John Muyingo urged teachers to resume work while promising reforms, as analysts warned that the prolonged strike could harm students’ learning.
