Libyan prosecutors detained interim Education Minister Ali al-Abed and a senior ministry official over alleged negligence in securing school textbooks. Investigators found irregularities in printing contracts and said the ministry failed to supply books to nearly two million students. The delay pushed the 2025–2026 school year more than a month late and forced parents to rely on photocopies. Abed replaced a former minister who received a prison sentence for a similar case.
