The Uganda Local Government Workers Union (ULGWU) declared an indefinite strike, set to commence on Oct. 1, 2025, to protest unresolved salary disparities in the public service. Union Secretary General Hassan Lwabayi Mudiba said that prolonged negotiations with the government failed to achieve fair pay. The strike will disrupt local government services nationwide, as workers are instructed not to report to work until further notice. The government has not yet responded.
