Uganda Sets Date for National Election

Uganda’s electoral commission set January 15, 2026, for the general elections. President Yoweri Museveni, 81, who has led the country since 1986, will seek another term. His main challenger is opposition leader Bobi Wine, also known as Robert Kyagulanyi. Six additional candidates will contest the presidency. Ugandans will also elect members of parliament during the polls, according to the commission and local media reports.
