President William Ruto said the government will build an expressway from Thika to Museum Hill to ease congestion along Thika Road. Speaking during Jamhuri Day celebrations, he said construction will start next year as part of wider Nairobi road upgrades. Ruto added that stalled city projects have resumed, with 60 km of roads under construction and plans to expand key metropolitan routes into dual carriageways.
Kenya’s opposition leaders accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of bias and vowed to challenge the results from the Mbeere North and Malava by-elections. Speaking at a burial ceremony in Murang’a County, they claimed the polls lacked transparency and alleged close ties between the commission and the government. The opposition said it will pursue legal action and warned that electoral credibility ahead of the 2027 General Election is at risk.

Speaking at a Nairobi church service, Musyoka said funding must align with the national budget. He also opposed the proposed Religious Organizations Bill, warning it could lead to state overreach into religious affairs.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja urged President William Ruto to rename the under-construction Talanta Stadium as Raila Odinga International Stadium during Jamhuri Day celebrations. Addressing crowds at Nyayo Stadium, Sakaja repeated the appeal after loud cheers. Talanta Stadium, nearing completion, will seat 60,000 and is planned as a major national sports venue. Sakaja also proposed hosting next year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations at the new stadium once completed. The proposal has sparked public debate over national honors.
The High Court suspended implementation of a Kenya-US health cooperation framework after concerns over personal data protection. Justice Lawrence Mugambi issued conservatory orders stopping any transfer or sharing of medical and epidemiological data pending a full hearing. The case was filed by Senator Okiya Omtatah, who argued the agreement risks violating Kenya’s data protection laws and the misuse of public funds. The government is barred from operationalizing the framework during court proceedings.
