President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed General Emmanuel Matatu as the new Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces following the retirement of General Philip Valerio Sibanda. Matatu was promoted from Lieutenant General. Major General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi has also been elevated to Lieutenant General and named Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army. The changes take effect between 21 and 25 November 2025.
Zimbabwe’s Cabinet has approved the National Development Strategy 2 (2026–2030), a five-year plan aimed at accelerating progress toward Vision 2030. NDS2 builds on the achievements of NDS1, including major infrastructure upgrades and increased power generation. Traditional leaders have pledged full support for government programs after a strategic meeting in Gweru, saying they play a vital role in advancing national development under Vision 2030. The National Chiefs Council praised President Mnangagwa’s leadership and affirmed its commitment to driving community progress. Government officials said chiefs are key public servants who help preserve culture, resolve disputes, and facilitate grassroots development, with their welfare strengthened through various state empowerment initiatives.
Constantino Chiwenga heads to Johannesburg to represent President Mnangagwa at the G20 Leaders’ Summit. Zimbabwe’s envoy in South Africa says the invitation reflects growing confidence in the country’s economic reforms. Chiwenga is also expected to meet South Africa’s Vice President Paul Mashatile to discuss bilateral relations during the visit. The summit is seen as a way for Zimbabwe to deepen its global engagement.
Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga has become the first Zimbabwean appointed to the Miss Universe judging panel, a move framed as boosting Zimbabwe’s global cultural and diplomatic presence. The Miss Universe Organisation called it a milestone for the nation, while Chiwenga said the role reflects Zimbabwe’s renewed international engagement. Her appointment aligns with the country’s return to global pageantry and highlights rising African influence as the 74th Miss Universe competition begins in Bangkok.
