Kenya received $419.6 million (Sh54.3 billion) in diaspora remittances in September, a 0.2% increase from August, according to the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK). Cumulative inflows over the past 12 months rose 7.6% to $5.08 billion (Sh657.9 billion). The United States remained the largest source, with funds supporting education, healthcare, and family needs. CBK projected remittances to reach $5.24 billion (Sh678.7 billion) in 2025 and $5.56 billion (Sh720.1 billion) in 2026.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati urged President William Ruto to rejoin the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) during Mashujaa Day celebrations, offering him a direct presidential ticket. Arati, ODM deputy leader, said Ruto’s return would help the party advance late Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s vision and ensure ODM either forms the next government or joins a winning coalition in 2027. He praised Raila as a champion of democracy and vowed to uphold his legacy.

Kenyans gathered at the Isebania border on Oct. 18, 2025, after Tanzanian authorities arrested opposition leader John Heche, CHADEMA deputy party leader, who was traveling to attend Raila Odinga’s funeral. Protesters stormed the Tanzanian immigration offices, demanding his release, and Heche was freed later that day. The crowd reportedly escorted him to Bondo for the funeral. CHADEMA said the arrest aimed to block party members from attending the event.

Kenya and Australia agreed to expand cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, mining, and the blue economy to strengthen bilateral economic ties. During talks in Nairobi, both sides emphasized boosting market access, improving seed and livestock quality, and attracting more Australian investors to Kenya. The discussions focused on developing the maritime sector and coastal infrastructure to enhance regional commerce. The two nations aim to upgrade their partnership to an Economic Partnership Agreement level.

Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) Kenya reported that lending to SMEs increased due to improved economic stability and lower interest rates. CEO Murali Natarajan credited government and Central Bank policies for strengthening the shilling and boosting business confidence. He added that DTB planned to double its balance sheet within four years. Trade CS Lee Kinyanjui urged banks to expand financing for businesses leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Dubai-based airline Flydubai has launched direct flights between Nairobi and Dubai, becoming the fifth international carrier to begin operations in Kenya this year. Operating four times weekly, the service is expected to strengthen air connectivity and support Kenya’s goal of attracting 5.5 million visitors by 2027. Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said the route will enhance trade and tourism links, urging travel agents to leverage the opportunity to market Kenya globally.
