Somalia’s Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development convened a high-level dialogue in Mogadishu, bringing together major Somali corporations, foreign investors, government officials, and diplomats to align private sector capacity with the National Transformation Plan 2025–2029. Somalia and Ethiopia have held talks to expand bilateral fish trade and strengthen commercial cooperation in the fisheries sector. Somalia’s Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Ahmed Hassan Aden, met Ethiopia’s Acting Ambassador, Ketema Haile, alongside business leaders. Officials said the discussions focused on facilitating the export of Somali fish to Ethiopian markets, improving trade linkages, and unlocking regional opportunities for private-sector participation.
A new parking facility has been inaugurated at Aden Adde International Airport to improve services and commercial operations at Somalia’s main aviation hub. Officials said the project will improve convenience for travellers, enhance traffic flow, and enhance the airport’s aesthetics. Somalia’s Auditor General has presented findings on the transparency of revenue collected from passport services, focusing on collection, accounting, and remittance procedures. Officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Immigration and Citizenship Agency reviewed the assessment, which emphasized depositing all revenues into the Treasury Single Account. The review highlighted risks associated with off-system collections and outlined recommendations to strengthen accountability, safeguard public funds, and improve the efficiency of government service revenue management.
Somalia’s Upper House has passed the National Payment System Bill, strengthening regulation and oversight of the country’s digital and electronic payments sector. Lawmakers said the legislation will improve transaction security, interoperability, and confidence in financial services. During the same session, officials noted that worsening drought conditions are increasing economic pressure on households and markets, underscoring the importance of resilient payment systems to support aid distribution, business continuity, and financial access nationwide.
Saudi Airlines is preparing to launch direct flights to Mogadishu after completing a technical assessment of Aden Adde International Airport, Somalia’s civil aviation authority said. The move follows recent infrastructure upgrades to meet ICAO’s international safety and facilitation standards. Officials said the development signals growing international airline interest, supports job creation, and strengthens Somalia’s aviation and transport sector, despite ongoing capacity and congestion constraints at the airport.
The African Union Peace and Security Council condemned Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as an independent state, calling the move illegal and a threat to Somalia’s sovereignty and regional stability. The council said no actor has the authority to alter the borders of an AU member state and urged an immediate reversal. It reaffirmed support for Somalia’s unity and called on member states and partners to uphold international law.
The Immigration and Citizenship Agency of Somalia launched an investigation into reports alleging unauthorized use of Somalia’s airspace and airports to facilitate the movement of a fugitive political figure from Yemen. The agency said the probe will assess possible breaches of national law, procedures, and sovereignty. Officials warned that any confirmed violations would be serious offences and pledged accountability, stressing Somalia’s commitment to the rule of law and international legal frameworks.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud condemned actions by Somaliland authorities, warning they threaten Somalia’s unity and sovereignty. In a televised address, he accused the breakaway region of abandoning dialogue and pursuing foreign-backed recognition efforts, including a disputed agreement with Ethiopia. Mohamud said Somalia’s territorial integrity cannot be altered by external actors and urged renewed dialogue, stressing that lasting recognition can only emerge through a Somali-led political settlement.
