The Jubilee Party appointed former Kajiado North MP Richard Moitalel Ole Kenta as its new secretary general, replacing Jeremiah Kioni. Announced by deputy party leader Fred Matiang’i, the decision places Ole Kenta at the center of Jubilee’s administrative and strategic operations as the party intensifies organizational rebuilding, grassroots mobilization, and efforts to regain national political relevance following recent realignments.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale defended the recent appointments of county officials at the Social Health Authority (SHA). He said the recruitment followed merit and avoided political influence. Speaking in Garissa, Duale denied interfering in the process, despite public concerns over ethnic imbalance. He acknowledged historical inequalities in public service hiring. Duale said he would meet SHA leadership to review the recruitment and ensure fairness and compliance with constitutional and public service guidelines.
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru said the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is regaining support in the Mt Kenya region. She credited the return of leaders who had previously defected and recent grassroots elections that strengthened local party structures. Speaking in Kirinyaga, Waiguru said the region should stay aligned with the government and dismissed opposition prospects ahead of the 2027 elections. She also highlighted increased interest in local leadership roles.
A faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), led by Wycliffe Oparanya, accused party leader Oburu Odinga of double standards and disrespect during a political event in Kakamega. The group criticized ODM leadership and warned that sidelining Oparanya could prompt a split. They also expressed support for President William Ruto in the 2027 elections and called for increased recognition of Western Kenya’s contributions within the party.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki praised President William Ruto for stabilizing Kenya’s macroeconomic fundamentals, saying the government is now shifting focus to job creation and income growth. Speaking at State House, Nairobi, Kindiki cited easing inflation and interest rates, currency stability, and record foreign exchange reserves. He linked the next phase of growth to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and highlighted affordable housing as a key driver of youth employment.
President William Ruto reshuffled Kenya’s foreign service, appointing Ababu Namwamba as High Commissioner to Uganda. The changes, announced by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, follow the completion of ambassadors’ terms. Namwamba moves from his role as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme. Joash Maangi, the former High Commissioner to Uganda, was reassigned as Ambassador to the European Union in Belgium. The changes take effect immediately.
