The government began constructing a Gemstone Value-Addition Training Centre in Arusha to expand local gemstone processing and skills development. Tanzania-based biotech firm NovFeed won the top prize at the seventh Africa’s Business Heroes awards, with its founder, Diana Orembe, emerging first among 10 finalists chosen from 32,000 applicants across the continent’s 54 countries. Organized by the Jack Ma Foundation with Alibaba Philanthropy, the competition awarded NovFeed US$300,000 in grant funding, while the remaining finalists shared US$1.2 million to support start-up growth across Africa.

Amsons Group and Zambia’s Exergy Africa agreed to jointly develop 1,300 megawatts of new power generation in Zambia through projects valued at $900 million. The partnership includes 1,000 megawatts of solar capacity and 300 megawatts of coal-fired generation. The companies aim to strengthen Zambia’s energy security by combining Exergy’s local expertise with Amsons’ regional infrastructure and logistics platform to deliver bankable power projects.
