Tanzania has sent a business delegation to China to take part in the eighth China International Import Expo in Shanghai and expand trade ties with Chinese partners. The delegation, organized by the Tanzania Trade Development Authority, includes 15 companies showcasing local products such as coffee, cashew nuts, and spices. Tanzania also held talks with China’s Shaanxi Province to boost cooperation in green industry, agriculture, digital trade, and investment under its national development plans.

South Africa’s Airlink will launch twice-weekly flights between Johannesburg and Zanzibar starting June 3, 2026, expanding its network in Tanzania. The route will use the airline’s new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, seating up to 136 passengers. Airlink aims to strengthen regional connectivity and support tourism and business travel to the island, which has a growing economy driven by tourism, agriculture, and investment in its developing blue economy sectors.

Tanzania is advancing a $420 million gas-to-liquid project to produce diesel, jet fuel, naphtha, hydrogen, and fertilizer locally. Rocky Mountain GTL, a Canadian clean-fuel technology company, completed a feasibility study confirming the plant’s technical and economic viability. The initiative, led in partnership with Rithi Tanzania Group, aims to reduce fuel imports, lower airline costs, and position Tanzania as a regional jet-fuel exporter, challenging Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery dominance in Africa.

CRDB Bank and French investment bank Bpifrance have signed a €37.5 million (about 115 billion TZS) financing agreement with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar to establish a digital Land Administration and Registration Information System (LARIS). Witnessed by President Hussein Mwinyi, the project seeks to modernize land management, minimize ownership disputes, and strengthen revenue collection. CRDB will contribute €7.9 million and Bpifrance €29.5 million to digitize land records and drive economic growth.

Tanzania will host Startup Week 2025 to advance Vision 2050 by promoting innovation, investment, and global collaboration. The five-day event will feature sessions on ecosystem foundations, international partnerships, venture deals, and the digital economy. Organizers expect 5,000 attendees, 200 startups, and $50 million in investment opportunities, with participation from 25 countries. The program aims to create lasting value through partnerships, ecosystem development, and support for startups to scale and compete globally.
