Ethiopia’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Muktar Kedir, said bilateral ties have strengthened into a high-level strategic relationship delivering concrete results. He noted rising Saudi investment in Ethiopia and growing agricultural exports to the kingdom. The ambassador said the partnership is rooted in long cultural and religious connections and has expanded since recent political changes in Ethiopia. He added that legal labor opportunities are increasing, with 200,000 Ethiopians entering Saudi Arabia last year and more expected.

Ethiopia’s President Taye Atske Selassie has arrived in Luanda for the seventh AU–EU Summit, held under the theme “Promoting Peace and Prosperity Through Effective Multilateralism.” The two-day gathering brings together African and European leaders to mark 25 years of AU–EU cooperation and the 50th independence anniversaries of Angola and other African states. Co-chaired by Angola’s President João Lourenço and European Council President António Costa, the summit includes leaders such as South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Ethiopia and Azerbaijan discussed strengthening political cooperation during talks in Addis Ababa between HPR Speaker Tagesse Chafo and Azerbaijani special envoy Elchin Amirbayov. Officials emphasized enhancing parliamentary relations, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people ties. The two sides also reviewed collaboration in civil service and education. Amirbayov said Azerbaijan is committed to deepening political engagement and sharing experience ahead of COP29. He also congratulated Ethiopia on securing the COP32 bid and pledged continued diplomatic coordination.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed met South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in Johannesburg to coordinate Africa’s priorities ahead of the G20 Leaders’ Summit. Abiy said the talks focused on presenting a unified African voice as the summit is hosted on the continent for the first time. He also joined a wider meeting of African leaders to align positions on development financing and debt sustainability. Officials said the consultations reflect Africa’s coordinated approach to the historic gathering.

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim ended a three-day official visit to Ethiopia aimed at strengthening diplomatic and bilateral cooperation. He held talks with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed focused on expanding partnerships across key sectors. Both governments signed agreements in tourism, air transport, health, and a sister-city pact between Addis Ababa and Kuala Lumpur. Anwar also joined a high-level forum with Ethiopian officials, saying the visit reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to deepening political and strategic relations.

Singapore will open its first East African embassy in Addis Ababa by 2027, strengthening ties with Ethiopia and the wider African Union. During his first official visit to Ethiopia, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed oversaw agreements on skills development and carbon markets. Singapore will fund scholarships and executive programs for African officials and explore cooperation on high-integrity carbon credits as Ethiopia prepares to host COP32 in 2027.
