Egypt already has troops, advisers, and counterterrorism support in Somalia under a bilateral defence agreement and plans to join a new African Union peacekeeping mission.

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune received Somali Special Envoy Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir in Algiers, where he delivered a written message from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. The delegation included Somalia’s state minister for foreign affairs and its ambassador to Algeria. Discussions focused on bilateral relations, diplomatic coordination, and cooperation in education, underscoring Somalia’s efforts to strengthen ties with Algeria within African and Arab multilateral frameworks and broader regional engagement across key continental institutions.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met traditional elders from Puntland in Las Anod, stressing their role in promoting unity, peace, and state-building. The elders, led by King Burhan Boqor Muse, were attending the inauguration of the leadership of the North Eastern State of Somalia. Discussions focused on reconciliation, territorial integrity, and governance, with elders pledging support for national stability and development efforts across Somalia.

Lower Shabelle Governor Abuubakar Abdalla Bashir and Marka District Commissioner Adanli Ahmed Mohamed visited the AUSSOM Battle Group XLIII at Ceeljaale Forward Operating Base. AUSSOM commanders highlighted the importance of cooperation with local authorities, security agencies, and communities in maintaining stability. Somalia voted in favour of a United Nations Security Council resolution aimed at strengthening security in the Red Sea, a vital global trade route. Somali diplomats said maritime stability requires respect for coastal state sovereignty, adherence to international maritime law, and action on the root causes of insecurity. They urged locally led initiatives and stronger international cooperation to counter piracy, terrorism, and illegal trafficking affecting Somalia and global supply chains.

Somalia’s newly appointed ambassador to Russia, Mohamed A. Zubeyr, has formally presented his credentials to President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, officially commencing his diplomatic assignment. The ceremony marked a renewal of formal diplomatic engagement between the two states. Ambassador Zubeyr said the appointment reflects mutual trust and Somalia’s intent to strengthen bilateral relations through dialogue, consultation, and cooperation amid evolving global political dynamics.
