Paratus Group has entered Uganda through a joint venture with Roke Telkom to form Paratus Uganda, expanding its African network footprint. The partnership combines Roke’s 19 years of local infrastructure experience with Paratus’ continental connectivity to deliver cross-border network, managed, and enterprise services. The venture targets sectors such as healthcare, mining, tourism, and NGOs, aiming to strengthen Uganda’s digital infrastructure and support regional digital transformation.
Uganda is expanding its national space program with major upgrades to the Mpoma ground station and plans for two new collaborative satellites, said Dr. Doreen Agaba, head of the Aeronautics & Space Bureau. Lessons from the 2022 PearlAfricaSat-1 mission are guiding this development. Current upgrades include enhanced spacecraft communication, a new national R&D lab, and a centralized GIS data hub. The bureau is also training local experts and integrating space studies into 10 universities.
Uganda is developing high-tech engineering hubs to reverse-engineer foreign machinery and strengthen local production, said Dr. Okodi Samuel of the Science, Technology, and Innovation Secretariat. The initiative focuses on the minerals sector and aims to boost artisanal miners by lowering production costs and improving technology. Facilities like the Revitete Engineering Design Center and T-BiC hubs support innovation, while new lab equipment at universities enhances research, nanotechnology, and industrial-scale innovation.
