Ethiopia is advancing reforms to position itself as a regional aviation hub, Transport and Logistics Minister Alemu Sime said. The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority licensed an aircraft maintenance provider under the Ethiopian Air Force and an aviation training school for international cargo services. Officials said the measures will reduce airline maintenance costs, expand the skilled workforce, and support new infrastructure, including the Bishoftu International Airport, to strengthen Ethiopia’s aviation and logistics sector.

Ethiopia and the World Bank signed an additional $250 million financing agreement to support the Urban Productive Safety Net and Jobs Project. The funding will improve incomes for the urban poor, expand labour market inclusion for youth and women, and support refugees and host communities. Key measures include labor-intensive public works, livelihood grants, and strengthened social assistance systems through cash transfers and reintegration services.

Ethiopia recorded major macroeconomic improvements following seven years of Home-Grown Economic Reforms, Finance Minister Ahmed Shide said at the Finance Forward Ethiopia conference. He cited stronger fiscal stability, higher revenues, and reduced deficits. Government revenue increased more than fourfold, tax revenue rose sharply, and $25 billion in external resources were mobilized. Officials said the reforms strengthened public institutions, supported inclusive growth, and stabilized the broader macroeconomic environment.

Ethiopia and Japan advanced bilateral economic engagement as a Japanese delegation led by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Kunimitsu Ayano visited the Bole Lemi Special Economic Zone in Addis Ababa. Ethiopia and the European Union reaffirmed their strategic partnership during talks between Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos and the European External Action Service Deputy Secretary-General, Olof Skoog, in Addis Ababa. Discussions focused on political cooperation, regional integration, macroeconomic reforms, and peace and security. Ethiopian officials cited alignment with the EU’s Global Gateway, while the EU confirmed continued political support and cooperation on current and future initiatives.

Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie met Sri Lanka’s outgoing ambassador during a farewell meeting marking the end of his diplomatic tenure. Discussions focus on election preparedness, local council roles, public finance oversight, and audit functions. The forum aims to strengthen democratic governance, protect rights, and align legislative actions with constitutional and legal frameworks nationwide.
