Ethiopia and the European Union reaffirmed their strategic partnership during talks between Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos and the European External Action Service Deputy Secretary-General, Olof Skoog, in Addis Ababa. Discussions focused on political cooperation, regional integration, macroeconomic reforms, and peace and security. Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie met Sri Lanka’s outgoing ambassador during a farewell meeting marking the end of his diplomatic tenure. Tagesse Chafo said Ethiopia’s government has completed preparations to ensure a fair, democratic, and peaceful seventh general election. Speaking at a joint consultative forum of federal and regional legislators, he emphasized the need for coordination, transparency, and capacity building. Discussions focus on election preparedness, local council roles, public finance oversight, and audit functions. The forum aims to strengthen democratic governance, protect rights, and align legislative actions with constitutional and legal frameworks nationwide.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed visited the Immigration and Citizenship Services to review recent improvements in service delivery and institutional facilities. Officials briefed him on reforms to modernize operations, enhance efficiency, and improve public access. The visit highlighted the government’s oversight of administrative reforms and its efforts to strengthen public institutions. Authorities said the changes support better governance, accountability, and effective delivery of state services.
Ethiopia and India have implemented a reciprocal visa-free travel arrangement for holders of diplomatic passports following an exchange of official notes in Addis Ababa. Officials said the agreement will facilitate diplomatic engagement, institutional coordination, and high-level government travel. The two countries also confirmed progress on a sensitive Foreign Ministry data center project, describing it as a symbol of political trust, strengthened bilateral relations, and expanded cooperation in governance, security, and foreign policy coordination.
Ethiopian State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hadera Abera met Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar to reaffirm bilateral relations. The meeting, held ahead of the fourth Ethio–Israel Political Consultation in Jerusalem, focused on regional and multilateral issues. Officials confirmed their commitment to closer diplomatic engagement, ongoing political dialogue, and coordination through existing foreign ministry consultation mechanisms.
