The Nairobi-based firm, known for designing and assembling electric motorcycles locally, aims to scale up EV adoption across Africa. Its Roam Park plant in Kenya produces up to 50,000 units annually, powered by renewable energy. With partnerships including Bolt and DHL, Roam integrates advanced battery-swapping and smart charging technologies.
Electric mobility firm BasiGo has launched three new bus charging hubs in Nairobi, each capable of serving 100 electric buses daily. The expansion marks a major step in Kenya’s transition to clean urban transport, supporting the government’s green mobility goals. The company said the new facilities will reduce emissions and operational costs while ensuring reliable charging for its growing fleet. Davis & Shirtliff has unveiled a modular, containerized solar-hybrid technology designed to deliver renewable power to off-grid areas in Kenya. The Lodwar-based pilot integrates a 50-kW solar inverter and a 70-kWh battery storage system to provide a continuous energy supply. Managing Director Edward Davis said the plug-and-play design enhances deployment efficiency in remote environments. The innovation supports Kenya’s goal of using advanced solar technologies to accelerate rural electrification and sustainable energy access.
In Nairobi’s Mukuru slum, Wajukuu Arts is using creativity to combat violence and poverty. Founded in 2003 by teenagers escaping gangs and police brutality, the collective now trains youth in photography, videography, and web design. Through art and community programs like the Kids’ Club, it helps 150 children annually express emotions and build confidence, turning art into a force for healing and social transformation.

Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan launched a nine-week feasibility study for the Naivasha–Kisumu–Malaba railway extension, aiming to expand the Standard Gauge Railway to the South Sudan border. Transport CS Davis Chirchir said the project will ease cargo transport and cut logistics costs across the region. Uganda’s Fred Byamukama added that shifting freight from roads to rail will reduce congestion, boost trade, and strengthen East Africa’s economic integration.
