In Nairobi’s Mukuru slum, Wajukuu Arts is using creativity to combat violence and poverty. Founded in 2003 by teenagers escaping gangs and police brutality, the collective now trains youth in photography, videography, and web design. Through art and community programs like the Kids’ Club, it helps 150 children annually express emotions and build confidence, turning art into a force for healing and social transformation.
The Third Maa Cultural and Tourism Festival is taking place near Amboseli National Park in Kajiado County, celebrating the heritage of the Maasai and Samburu communities. The event, themed “Promoting Maa Cultural Expression for Socio-Economic Development,” highlights culture’s role in tourism, conservation, and community growth. Governors Joseph Ole Lenku, Patrick Ole Ntutu, and Lati Lelelit praised the return of Amboseli to county management and emphasized culture as a driving force for economic empowerment.
Kenya’s cultural and natural heritage gained global recognition as the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) was named Africa’s Best Tourism Board at the 2025 Balearica Awards in London. The Masai Mara National Reserve also won Best Safari Destination for its wildlife and community-driven conservation. Acting CEO Allan Njoroge said the honors celebrate Kenya’s artistic, cultural, and ecological diversity, reinforcing its global reputation as a vibrant destination for authentic African travel experiences.
