Kenyan digital creators earned major recognition at the 2025 TikTok Awards Sub-Saharan Africa in Johannesburg, highlighting the country’s expanding creative presence. @tunero_animations won Rising Star of the Year, while sports analyst John Maingi Mbugua secured Sports Creator of the Year. TikTok officials praised African creators for shaping global online culture. Additional winners came from Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, and Tanzania across entertainment, food, education, sports, and social impact categories.
Kenya placed cultural heritage at the center of its evolving tourism approach by integrating traditional performances, festivals and community spaces into Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions. Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said the shift, presented during the Umoja Laikipia Cultural Unity Festival, aims to elevate cultural identity and expand participation through the MICE Mashinani initiative. The ministry plans to work with creatives and cultural ambassadors to strengthen heritage preservation and deepen community engagement nationwide.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki joined communities in celebrating the Marsabit Lake Turkana Cultural Festival, an event highlighting the traditions of 14 ethnic groups through music, regalia, and shared heritage. Kindiki said culture plays a vital role in promoting unity and preserving identity across generations. The festival, themed “Celebrating Our Diversity, Strengthening Our Unity,” showcased Marsabit’s long-standing cultural vibrancy and its commitment to strengthening cohesion through artistic expression and intercommunity engagement.
